The preview of the 296 GT3, the new heir of the racing series

Goodbye 488 GT3.

Hello, 296 GT3! It is time to move on from one of the most victorious Ferraris in the Competizioni series. Welcome, 296 GT3. You are so beautiful.

As the name suggests, Ferrari introduced the racing version of the 296 GTB model. It will succeed the 488 GT3 in all GT Competizioni this year.  The 296 GT3 will debut in Corse Clienti programs beginning in 2023. Maranello released the first sketches of the new racing car, ready to pick up one of the most successful stints for a Ferrari GT car.

Ferrari maintained a legacy of greatness with the 488 GT3 collecting 107 titles and 429 victories in over 770 starts (as of March 2022).

Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale, added its accolades to the racing car through the 2015-2017 season, with one of the most successful teams in history.  Ronnie Vogel and Squadra Corse Garage Italia manage the team.

The 296 GT3: Specs

Ferrari designed with the likes of the 296 GTB in mind, with several technical specs that make the car significantly reshaped for racing. The car mounts a 2.9 Liter V6 Biturbo (unlike the GTB, which has an 830 Hp V6 plug-in Hybrid) mid-engine pushing almost 700 HP.

The car is an explosive and modern designed car with aesthetically beautiful features to increase its performance at aerodynamics and mechanical level, in line with the GT3 category regulations.

The 296 GT3 maintained most of the body design of the GTB, but from the first sketches it is possible to notice a full-body kit with a very low front spiller, aerodynamic side-skirts. The front shows canards on the sides of the bumper, dynamic vents covering the tires – lowering turbulence at wheels wells – and the mentioned lowered front spiller. The rear shows two

big diffusers, which will allow more air-intake and delivery to the engine and rear tires, and finally, a wide and high rear wing.

Maranello hinted that the inspiration for the design comes from the 250 LM, the winner of the 1965 Le Mans.

The 296 GT3 will enter 2023 with a great level of expectations from Ferrari fans and GT experts. The pressure is on, the design inspired by the car that recalls one of Ferrari’s most historical wins at Le Mans, as well as continuing the legacy that the 488 GT3 developed over the past years.

While this is Maranello’s teaser, the car is an aesthetic piece of beauty, which we hope it will soon roar in all Ferrari’s competitions. 296 GT3, see you in 2023.
