Formula 1: What to Expect From Ferrari in 2022
The 2021 season kept any Formula One fan on the edge of his or her seats, with Verstappen and Hamilton battling until that last lap in Abu Dhabi that will remain in the history books.
Nothing like the last races of 2021 showed an indisputable and complex relationship between car, driver, and team. Mercedes and Red Bull have been ruling the paddock all season in this epic clash. Many Ferrari fans reminisce of the times when Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen would see the Scuderia dominating the sport.
2022 Ferrari Formula One Expectations
The 2022 season could be the end of this nostalgia, with Ferrari returning competitive for the championship. The consensus is that both Leclerc and Sainz are two very competitive drivers. In addition, one proved to be extremely talented, and the other very consistent and reliable. With Mattia Binotto under the scope in the position of team principal, he is leading the transition to the 2022 design of car and power unit following the rules changing with the 2022 Formula 1 season.
In introducing the season, Mattia Binotto disclosed information on the car, called 674, as an innovative project, in developing chassis and power unit. As of now, Binotto divulged that this car is an exclusive development, self-referenced, and distinct from its major competitors. Scuderia Ferrari focuses on the goal of diminishing the gap the car showed in the power unit (with Mercedes in particular) and downforce (where Red Bull showed to be best equipped).

Will Ferrari leadership be the key to Formula One success?
The hope is that the car will embody that extreme and powerful character that distinguished Maranello over racing history. This season will be a great test for Binotto’s leadership. Past seasons looked to suffer a gap from the likes of Toto Wolff and Christian Horner. This gap was just as equal as the gaps between Ferrari against Mercedes and Red Bull.
One might say that Ferrari succeeded in Formula 1 because of a charismatic leader carrying the team to victory. Jean Todt or Stefano Domenicali illustrate that a team principal’s leadership influences the overall success of the team. While fans can be confident that Ferrari employs the best technicians and the best infrastructure, the 2022 season will expose Binotto’s ability to guide Ferrari in the Formula 1 transition. Eagle-eyed fans should watch how Binotto handles regulation changes, and the opportunity to bring Ferrari back on top.
Like all Ferrari fans worldwide, we will be waiting for the unveiling of the 2022 Ferrari Formula 1 car. Scuderia Ferrari planned the reveal for between February 16-18 (Enzo Ferrari’s birthday). The first tests will be in Barcelona from February 23 to the 25th.
