Formula 1: Ferrari ends strong in Montreal GP

Montreal GP takes us back to its last edition in 2019, when Vettel wins the race, to then getting penalized and getting dethroned by Lewis Hamilton.

Back then Ferrari was in a bit of a crisis, and the Canadian Grand Prix looked to bring some new hopes in the Scuderia.

As Vettel ended second behind an incredible Lewis Hamilton in 2019, this year’s race had Carlos Sainz finishing second behind an incredible Max Verstappen. Red Bull is perfect in race management strategy, allowing the 2021 WDC to show all his talents by keeping behind a Ferrari looking extremely competitive.

New Engine

The weekend started with Charles Leclerc changing engine and power unit, with the last position penalty, as per FIA regulations. Binotto and the team wanted to open a new chapter, and after Leclerc blew the engine the week before in Baku, and since Ferrari’s last win is from over two months ago in Australia.

The Monegasque, very good in his comeback from the last row, however, finished only fifth and now the distance from the Dutchman has risen to 49 points.

Montreal GP: A Controlled Race

It was a masterful Max Verstappen who won the Canadian GP, beating the Ferrari of a Carlos Sainz who tried them all.

A well-deserved victory for the Red Bull driver, showed top-class driving and added another performance as reigning champion of Formula 1

A controlled first part of the race, in fact, Verstappen was followed by a second part of the race of suffering, in which he had to show off all his talent to keep the F1-75 of the Spanish driver at bay, unintentionally favored by the Safety Car entered for an accident of Yuki Tsunoda.

The accident involving the Japanese Alpha Tauri driver came on a perfect timing, as Sainz pitting for fresh tires gave a great opportunity to attempt another attack on Verstappen.

The Spaniard this race tried to be a bit more aggressive, yet it looked a bit “out talented” and controlled by a spectacular and spotless drive from the Red Bull champion: over the fifteen laps of the second part of the race, Sainz managed to stay within DRS zone, but was never left with a chance of overtaking first place.

The Ferrari Package

Leclerc bringing 5th position after starting the race from the bottom rows, showed a very entertaining F1-75 and the hopes that this year Ferrari can add many other wins and great races. Sainz looked a bit more confident with the car, a sign that the upgrades of the car and the work in Maranello is bringing some new and positive result on track.

What we can hope for from this time and moving to the next race in Silverstone, is of a Ferrari that can return competitive and bring out the best performance of the car, and hopefully greater chances for Leclerc and Sainz to bring in more points than Red Bull.

On the other side, Max Verstappen has been growing in confidence and strength over the last races, start building the road to his second championship. Red Bull and the Dutch champion are definitely a step above than Ferrari now, but at this halfway mark of the season, nothing is over yet.
