488 Pista’s Heritage: F40 and V8 Twin Turbo

January 11th, 2022 by

It was the 80s when Maranello designed a car destined to change the concept of a supercar on the road. Futuristic design, revolutionary racing-like features, following these lines of a Formula 1 car, but also, feeling like a driving one. It was the last car approved by Enzo Ferrari, before his death in 1988, as the founder wanted to leave the last piece of his DNA in a car: light, futuristic, born for racing. It was then called “The Most Beautiful Ferrari Ever“.  Almost three decades later, Ferrari engineers redesigned the F40 for the new millennium.

The Redesigned F40: Introducing the 488 Pista

No compromise. Just speed. The F40 bodywork weighs only 1230 kg, lightness that allowed showing a powerful V8, 2.9 liter with twin turbochargers producing 478 HP. A masterpiece.

Fast forwarding to 2010, thirty years after, the birth of the 488 Pista is the rebirth of Enzo Ferrari’s dream to build cars to fulfill the racing DNA in all Ferraristi.

The 488 Pista inherited from the F40 the idea of speed and lightness, the 488 Pista is 1385 kg, thanks to some components used for the 488 GT3 Evo, is 90 kg lighter than the 488 GTB. Thanks to racing aerodynamic features – inspired once more by the Formula 1 single-seaters – the car’s front nose S-duct allow the car to optimize downforce, while the elevated spoiler in the back, almost recalling the idea of the F40, increases once more aerodynamic efficiency. In total, the 488 Pista provides a monster 720 HP, 50 more than the GTB and a 20% higher downforce.

488 Pista

The 488 Pista seems to express its full V8 potential on track. An incredible torque of 770 NM at 3280 rpm, natural aspired engine, impressive double clutch-7 gears, 8000 RPM performance peak, benefits incredibly by the intuitive design that perfected aerodynamics, allowing greater levels of drag and maintain a good speed and control on curves. This car becomes easy to drive, making the 488 Pista the best ‎assembly‎ of “Fun to Drive” and racing.
